The Hidden Gap After Hospital Discharge

Discharge is just the start of recovery, and many families aren’t prepared. Public home support can take weeks to organise, leaving older people at risk of falls, poor nutrition, and hospital readmission.

In New Zealand, health insurance usually does not cover ongoing private home care, and publicly funded support can take time to assess, approve, and begin. Families are often left to manage the first few days or weeks alone — at the exact moment when safety, mobility, and confidence matter most.

Testimonials

Real Family Feedback

Hear from the families who trust Home Carers to provide compassionate, reliable support for their loved ones. Their stories reflect the real difference our dedicated team makes every day.

“A massive “Thank you” to you, and your team, for all your care and support of Pat over these last few years. It made a world of difference to Pat to be able to get out and about and engage in conversation with people whose company she enjoyed. It was also very reassuring for me, and the family, knowing your team was on the ground, especially during the unexpected hospital admissions when the carers would go above and beyond to help Pat through the admission process and ensure she had what she needed.”

Our parents were provided with exceptional care over a 6 month period, so that we were able to keep them living independently in their home at a time when they were struggling with declining health and dementia. The Assistants were extremely caring and kind and went above and beyond to make sure our parents were well looked after.”

Sarah, Helen, Anne & Lawrence Kimberley

“I am profoundly grateful for the care my brother has received, and have no doubt that their expertise has extended the time my brother has been able to remain in his own home. All these services have been undertaken with persistent patience, courtesy, and good humour. All the carers have been unfailingly kind, and respectful of my brother, often under very trying circumstances. I recommend this service without reservation, and am happy to be contacted independently at any stage.”
